A student’s placement in a grade level or class is decided upon by the Director of Instruction after the student has completed the admissions process. QSI places all students according to age first and foremost, with consideration for their last grade completed. For secondary (high school-aged) students, both MAP results and previous school records are evaluated closely to determine placement in the secondary program. Secondary students (ages 14–18) must show English language proficiency at a high enough level to be successful in earning a high school diploma.
To enter the 5-year-old class, a child will have completed 5 years of age no later than 1 November. This pattern is applied to the other classes throughout the school, but some exceptions do apply. An exception to this policy can be discussed with the Director of Instruction after completing the admissions process.
Please note: children who enroll from schools with an academic calendar different from August to June (for example, January to November) will be placed in the grade in which they are currently enrolled if enrolling at the beginning of the school year in August. Mid-year applicants will be enrolled in the grade which they have just completed. This pattern is applied to all classes throughout the school, but some exceptions do apply. An exception to this policy can be discussed with the Director of Instruction after completing admissions.
